DPL&A conducts informative and objective seminars on various employee benefit related topics. These seminars are geared for employers interested in learning cutting edge concepts as well as practical application of the subject matter. Basically, there are four themes we regularly present to various organizations:
1. Annual Iowa Employer Benefits Study© Results - We own, conduct, and publish the annual Iowa Employer Benefits Study©. We summarize and present the key findings to SHRM chapters and other associations. This presentation focuses on employee benefit packages employers are offering and illustrates the changes employers are implementing (i.e. employee cost sharing and benefit adjustments, etc.). Also included are other benefit trends Iowa employers consider from year to year.
2. Iowa Employment Values Study - This particular study provides a practical overview of the most common workplace values desired by employees broken down into various employee demographics. Understanding common misaligned employee/employer values can provide you with some basic principals when assessing your own workplace environment.
3. Alternate Funding 101 & 102 - These sessions are educational and usually presented in a small group setting. The sessions are a true means of educating employers on the various ways of paying for insurance (fully insured, self-insured, etc.). The sessions provide the means to understand how many different products can be similar contractually and in concept. Alternate Funding 101 & 102 are great tools for employers who are confused by insurance related choices in the marketplace.
4. Health Insurance Renewal Strategies - This session provides instruction on how to evaluate a medical insurance renewal for appropriateness and alternatives. It is designed to empower and educate buyers about what to look for and how to avoid potential problems.
5. Benefit Risk Analysis - This is a somewhat detailed and more technical session geared toward assessing the "benefit risk" an employer bears by offering benefits to employees. It provides more details on a systematic approach for health insurance and how to manage benefit plans and determine the need for "shopping" for insurance. Too often employers access the market to obtain a quote without ever knowing the risk they really bear, therefore, the quote process can turn into a disappointment and often the product(s) fall short of expectations. If an employer understands the basics behind their own risk they may save a lot of time and money. |
